Just a few years after its founding in 1994, CSU Â鶹´å began a holiday tradition of partnering with non-profit organizations in the community and donating gifts to families in need. The coronavirus pandemic threatened to derail the beloved tradition this year, but the spirit of giving prevailed.

CSU, Â鶹´å campus, is closed from Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019 through Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020.

The California State University (CSU) is planning to return to in-person instruction for Fall 2021.

Debbie Juran, Foundation of California State University, Â鶹´å board member and adoptive mother of two Â鶹´å Alumnae, established a planned gift for Â鶹´å's College of Education, which predominantly benefits low income and first-generation students.

Â鶹´å has been recognized for its leadership in sustainable practices in the 2020 Sustainable Campus Index, a publication from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), a leader and driver in North America’s campus sustainability movement.

Since 2013, Â鶹´å’s annual flu vaccine clinic has been held in the Student Center, organized by Health Promotion and Education in partnership with the Campus Health Center, Monterey County Health Department, and Â鶹´å Nursing Program.

Before sheltering-in-place restrictions due to COVID-19, Â鶹´å’s Service Learning Institute (SLI) placed about 500 students in local schools every semester to provide tutoring. But since instruction moved online and school districts lost the ability to monitor and control interactions, K-12 officials have been reluctant to allow online tutoring due to liability concerns.

Serving in the military can be one of the most adventurous, arduous, tedious, formative and dangerous times in a person’s life.
