All required application materials, including letters of recommendation, must be received by the Final Deadline. Applications will not be reviewed until all required materials have been submitted.

Priority Deadline: Applications submitted by this date will receive priority review. Applications received after this date will continue to be considered until the final deadline, subject to available space. International students are strongly encouraged to apply by the priority deadline to ensure adequate time for admissions, immigration, and visa processing.

Application Process

Step 1

Complete and submit the online application at Cal State Apply and pay the required application fee.

  • In the Apply Online section, select Graduate Admission Applications.
  • Select the appropriate application term.
  • Under Major/Program objective, choose MS Computer Science
  • Complete all required sections and submit your application.

As part of your application, you must submit the following required materials. Additional information about each requirement is provided in the Required Application Materials section below.

  • Current resume/CV
  • Contact information (email addresses) for up to two letters of recommendation
  • Statement of Purpose (maximum 750 words)
  • Copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, uploaded as part of your MSCS application.
  • Applicants with international coursework and/or whose native language is not English may also be required to submit TOEFL scores and a course-by-course foreign credential evaluation.

Step 2

After submitting your Cal State Apply application, you will receive an email from Âé¶¹´å with instructions for accessing your Âé¶¹´å username and dashboard, where you can track the status of your application. Please allow up to five (5) business days for this information to be processed and delivered.

Step 3

Once admitted, you can secure your place in the program by paying the enrollment confirmation fee through your Âé¶¹´å student account. The fee will be credited toward your tuition.

Required Application Documents

Transcripts

  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be sent directly to the Office of Admissions at the address listed above.
  • Unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must also be uploaded as part of your Cal State Apply application.
  • Applicants are expected to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their most recent 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units) of college-level coursework. Applicants with a GPA between 2.5 and 3.0 may be considered if they can provide strong evidence of their potential for success in graduate study.
  • Domestic applicants who have completed coursework outside the United States must obtain a course-by-course evaluation of their foreign transcripts from a recognized credential evaluation service at their own expense. Please refer to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES.org) for approved organizations that provide foreign credit evaluation services. Applicants must also submit copies of both the original transcripts and certified English translations (if applicable) to the Office of Admissions.

Statement of Purpose

Submit a Statement of Purpose (maximum 750 words) describing your motivation for pursuing the M.S. in Computer Science at Âé¶¹´å, your areas of interest within computer science, and your career and educational goals. 

Letter of Recommendation

  • Applicants must provide the names and email addresses of two recommenders as part of the application process. Recommenders should be individuals who can speak to your academic ability, professional accomplishments, and potential for success in graduate study.
  • After your application is submitted, each recommender will receive an email with instructions for completing a recommendation form and uploading a letter of recommendation on your behalf. Alternatively, recommenders may submit their letters directly by email to csgrad@csumb.edu.
  • All letters of recommendation must be received by the final application deadline. Applications will not be reviewed until both letters of recommendation have been submitted.

English Language Proficiency and Transcript Evaluation

  • International applicants should review the CSU Âé¶¹´å International Student Admission Requirements for the most current admissions information. Depending on your educational background, you may be required to provide proof of English proficiency through TOEFL scores or an approved equivalent examination. For additional information about English proficiency requirements and submitting official test scores, please visit the Âé¶¹´å International Admissions.
  • Applicants who have completed coursework outside the United States must also submit a course-by-course evaluation of their foreign academic transcripts from a recognized credential evaluation service. Please refer to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES.org) for approved organizations that provide foreign credit evaluation services.
