The Cal State Âé¶¹´å Police Department is committed to protecting life and property while fostering a safe, welcoming campus environment. Through professional service and strong partnerships with the campus community, the department supports the well-being of students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Helpful Services

The Âé¶¹´å Police Department provides a variety of services to support the safety and needs of the campus community:

  • Vehicle jumpstarts: Free assistance available 24/7 for vehicles on Cal State Âé¶¹´å property
  • Blue light phones: Emergency phones located across campus to report fires, medical emergencies, accidents, crimes in progress or suspicious activity
  • Safety training: Free classes in Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) self-defense, CPR and AED use
  • Animal control services

  • Lost and found assistance

Report a Crime

If you are a victim of crime or a witness to a crime, report it to the University Police Department in person or by calling 831-655-0268 as soon as possible. You can also send us an anonymous tip.

Bike Patrol

If you would like UPD Bike Patrol Officers to attend an event or provide info on bike safety and laws, contact us. You may also register your bike for theft prevention and recovery purposes.

Citizen Complaints

If you believe a member of UPD has mistreated you, violated your rights, or been unprofessional, you can file a complaint in person, in writing or to Daniel Andrada at 831-582-3624/dandrada@csumb.edu.

Campus Services

The CSU Âé¶¹´å Police Department offers Live Scan fingerprinting. We provide fingerprinting services to students, faculty, staff, auxiliary employees, and the general public.

Before you come in

  • Call for an appointment at (831) 582-3573. No walk-in customers
  • You must have a form from the person or agency requesting the Livescan
  • Determine your Digital print costs using the fees below.

Fees for live scan

Fees vary depending on the type of background your agency requires.

  • $30.00 Rolling Fee
  • $32.00 Department of Justice
  • $17.00 FBI
  • $19.00 Firearms
  • $15.00 Child Abuse

Âé¶¹´å students, staff, faculty, and auxiliary employees pay a $15.00 Rolling Fee

All fees are subject to change without notice. Refer to the Department of Justice Fingerprinting Process Fees for a detailed list of the various fees.

Bring the following items with you

  1. Photo ID such as a California or other state driver’s license or state ID card; and
  2.  Campus ID card if you are a student, faculty, or staff, in order to receive a campus discount; and
  3. Live Scan form provided by your requesting agency; and
  4. Cash or check only

You must have a parking permit to park on campus, you may purchase one from a dispenser or online at Âé¶¹´å.EDU/Parking/Buy Permit

The UPD serves as the central collection point for lost and found items, such as clothing, jewelry, glasses, keys, and books. 

Lost and Found property is held in the Parking Services Office for a maximum of 3 months. We encourage anyone who has lost property while at Âé¶¹´å to check Lost and Found to see if the property was turned in. A large amount of property remains unclaimed.

Reporting lost property

If you have lost or found property, please contact Parking Services at 831-582-3573. 

Claiming lost property

If you want to claim your lost property, you should provide a detailed verbal description of the item(s) and the approximate location and date it was lost. Written descriptions and written verification of ownership are desirable.

If any descriptions match the lost item, you will be shown the item(s). If the property that you identified closely matches the property description, it will be returned to you only if you produce valid photo identification.

The Âé¶¹´å Police Department provides 24-hour animal control services to the Campus Community. If you need assistance, please contact us at (831) 655-0268 or 911 in an emergency.

The Police Department works closely with the to ensure the highest level of service when it comes to animal control.

Licensing

All dogs in campus housing are required to have licenses. Cat licensing is voluntary, but highly recommended. Pet licenses may be obtained online at:

All Monterey County Animal Control Codes apply in Âé¶¹´å campus housing. 

Common Monterey County Animal Control Codes:

  • MCC 8.08.010Vaccinations. All dogs and cats over 4 months of age must be vaccinated against the rabies virus.
  • MCC 8.08.030Licensing. All dogs must be licensed. You have 30 days to obtain a license before a late fine is issued if you recently moved to Monterey County, your dog reached 4 months of age, your current license has expired, or you have acquired a new dog. MCC 8.08.040 dog license tag must be attached.
  • MCC 8.20.010Running at Large (leash law). Dogs are not permitted to run at large at any time.
  • MCC 8.36.010Noise. Animals cannot be kept, maintained or permitted if, by any sound or cry, they disturb the peace and comfort of any neighborhood.
  • MCC 8.36.030Dog Feces. If your dog or a dog in your control or custody defecates on any public or private property, it is your responsibility to clean it up.

The Night Walk Service provides walking escorts between main campus locations, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to anyone who would like to use it. Call 831-655-0268 to request a Night Walk.

OTTERalerts

OTTERalert is Âé¶¹´å’s emergency alert system. It delivers emergency alerts via email, text, desktop notification, and an outdoor speaker system to all members of the Âé¶¹´å community.

The University Police Department is located at 100 Campus Center, Valley Hall Suite F, Seaside, CA, 93955. Our public counter is open Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. when Âé¶¹´å is open.
