Advising Appointments

Schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor for course and degree planning or a Success Advisor for strategies that support your academic success.

Plan Your Next Steps with Advising

Advising appointments connect you with the right support for your goals. Academic Advisors can help you understand degree requirements and plan your courses, while Success Advisors focus on strategies and habits that strengthen your academic progress.

To make the most of your appointment, review your Academic Requirements Report in advance and come prepared with questions about your progress, upcoming courses, or long-term goals. Be ready to discuss what’s going well and where you may need support.

Please arrive about five minutes early so your appointment can begin on time. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, you may need to reschedule.

After your meeting, you can review a summary of your appointment in Otter Navigate.

Special Advising Situations

If you are interested in changing your major or adding a minor, you will first need to speak with the advisor for that program.

Because Otter Navigate only allows you to schedule appointments with advisors already connected to your record, attend Advising Drop-Ins or call the front desk at 831-582-3937 so a Student Assistant can help schedule the appointment.

Students must attend Education Abroad 101 to participate in Â鶹´å Education Abroad programs. In this session, you will explore program opportunities, learn about financial aid and scholarships, and have your questions answered.

Education Abroad 101 workshops are offered both virtually and in person. To view available dates and register, join the .

Attendance at Education Abroad 101 is required before meeting individually with the Education Abroad Advisor or an Academic Advisor.

After meeting with the Education Abroad Advisor and identifying potential courses, schedule an appointment with your Academic Advisor to review how those courses may apply toward your degree. If you plan to take courses that count toward your major, you will also need approval from the faculty chair of your department.

Study abroad planning often requires more than one advising meeting, so begin the process early.

Once the add/drop deadline passes, changes to your schedule require special approval. To add or swap a course, you must submit a Late Add Petition through OASIS, and approval is not guaranteed.

Petitions require an explanation of the extenuating circumstances that prevented you from enrolling before the deadline, along with approval from the course instructor and department chair. After the census date, college dean approval is also required and requests are rarely approved.

Students requesting a late add are generally expected to have been attending the class and completing coursework, even if they were not formally enrolled. Exceptions are rare and depend on instructor and college approval.

Late add petitions must be submitted no later than the last day of classes for the term, and requests are routed electronically through OASIS.

Adding a course after the add/drop deadline does not change your financial aid eligibility. To receive financial aid for a class, you must be enrolled in that class by the add/drop deadline.

Before submitting a petition, contact the instructor, confirm your class schedule to avoid overlaps, and resolve any registration holds. Academic Advisors can help you understand how adding a course may affect your learning plan, but they cannot approve late adds.

Drop-In Advising

Drop-In Advising is available for quick questions about registration, course planning, prerequisites, and permission numbers. Most drop-ins take place on Zoom, with some advisors also offering in-person options.
