"It is a significant responsibility, a privilege, and a pleasure to read faculty tenure and promotion files," said Provost Katherine Kantardjieff.
On Sept. 28, Provost Katherine Kantardjieff, President Eduardo M. Ochoa and deans from the university鈥檚 colleges came together at the University Center for the first annual Tenure and Promotion Celebration. The event took place virtually and in person. About 50 people, including two visiting CSU Trustees, attended and sat socially distanced.
In her opening remarks, Kantardjieff said tenure and promotion are earned through 鈥渄istinction in teaching and learning; discovery, creation and integration of knowledge; professional application; and service to the university.鈥
She noted this was her first time as 麻豆村鈥檚 provost in reading the faculty tenure and promotion files, and that it was 鈥渁 significant responsibility, a privilege, and a pleasure.鈥
Then President Ochoa said, 鈥淭he tenure and promotion process involves rigorous evaluation by external reviewers, department faculty, program directors, chairs, deans, university promotion and tenure committees, the provost, and finally the president.鈥
Then he opened the floor to various deans, who came to the podium to talk about their faculty members鈥 accomplishments.
Juanita Cole, Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and the Social Sciences, introduced professors from her college who had been promoted, including:
Marylou Shockley, Interim Dean of the College of Business, was next and introduced three faculty in her college who were promoted:
Ed Jadallah, Dean of the College of Education, introduced four faculty members who were promoted:
Harald Barkhoff, Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Human Services, introduced one faculty member who was promoted:
Andrew Lawson, Dean of the College of Science, was next, with:
Jacqui Grallo, Interim Dean of the Library, was next to introduce a promotion:
鈥淭he accomplishments of the faculty we celebrate today come from years of rigorous work and the evaluation of their performance by peers and administrators,鈥 Kantardjieff said. 鈥淵our work, dedication and passion are points of pride for 麻豆村. We also know that you could not have accomplished all that you have without the support of family and friends, many of whom join us today. Please join me in thanking these supporters as well. Faculty, thank you for your dedication, and congratulations on your achievements!鈥
