On Sept. 28, Provost Katherine Kantardjieff, President Eduardo M. Ochoa and deans from the university鈥檚 colleges came together at the University Center for the first annual Tenure and Promotion Celebration. The event took place virtually and in person. About 50 people, including two visiting CSU Trustees, attended and sat socially distanced. 

In her opening remarks, Kantardjieff said tenure and promotion are earned through 鈥渄istinction in teaching and learning; discovery, creation and integration of knowledge; professional application; and service to the university.鈥�

She noted this was her first time as 麻豆村鈥檚 provost in reading the faculty tenure and promotion files, and that it was 鈥渁 significant responsibility, a privilege, and a pleasure.鈥�

Then President Ochoa said, 鈥淭he tenure and promotion process involves rigorous evaluation by external reviewers, department faculty, program directors, chairs, deans, university promotion and tenure committees, the provost, and finally the president.鈥�

Then he opened the floor to various deans, who came to the podium to talk about their faculty members鈥� accomplishments.

Juanita Cole, Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and the Social Sciences, introduced professors from her college who had been promoted, including:

• Professor Luis Camara, Cinematic Arts, promotion to Full Professor
• Jeffrey Jones, Music and Performing Arts, early promotion to Full Professor
• Jennifer Lovell, Psychology, tenure and promotion to Associate Professor
• Mridula Mascarenhas, Humanities and Communication, early tenure and promotion to Associate Professor
• Professor Meghan O鈥橦ara, Cinematic Arts, tenure and promotion to Associate Professor
• Amanda Pullum, Social, Behavioral and Global Studies, early tenure and promotion to Associate Professor
• Lanier Sammons, Music and Performing Arts, tenure and promotion to Associate Professor
• Shannon Snapp, Psychology, tenure and promotion to Associate Professor
• Professor Silvia Turchin, Cinematic Arts, tenure and promotion to Associate Professor
• Christine Valdez, Psychology, early tenure and promotion to Associate Professor

Marylou Shockley, Interim Dean of the College of Business, was next and introduced three faculty in her college who were promoted:

• Leslie Boni, promoted to Full Professor 
• Jenny Lin, promoted to Associate Professor
• Angeline Nariswari, promoted to Associate Professor

Ed Jadallah, Dean of the College of Education, introduced four faculty members who were promoted:

• Kimberly Crossman, Department of Human Development and Family Studies, promoted to Associate Professor
• Ondine Gage, Department of Liberal Studies, promoted to Associate Professor
• Erin Ramirez, Department of Education and Leadership, promoted to Associate Professor
• Megan Sulsberger, Department of Liberal Studies, promoted to Associate Professor

Harald Barkhoff, Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Human Services, introduced one faculty member who was promoted:

• Lisa Leininger, Kinesiology Department, early promotion to Full Professor

 Andrew Lawson, Dean of the College of Science, was next, with: 

• Glenn Bruns, School of Computing and Design, promoted to Associate Professor
• Jenny Duggan, Department of Applied Environmental Science, promoted to Associate Professor
• Arlene Haffa, Department of Biology and Chemistry, promoted to Full Professor
• Alison Haupt, Department of Marine Science, promoted to Associate Professor
• Nate Jue, Department of Biology and Chemistry, promoted to Associate Professor.
• Corin Slown, Department of Biology and Chemistry, early tenure and promotion to Associate Professor.
• Aparna Sreenivasan, Department of Biology and Chemistry, promoted to Full Professor. 

Jacqui Grallo, Interim Dean of the Library, was next to introduce a promotion:

• Research and Instruction Librarian Sarah Dahlen, promotion to Full Librarian 

鈥淭he accomplishments of the faculty we celebrate today come from years of rigorous work and the evaluation of their performance by peers and administrators,鈥� Kantardjieff said. 鈥淵our work, dedication and passion are points of pride for 麻豆村. We also know that you could not have accomplished all that you have without the support of family and friends, many of whom join us today. Please join me in thanking these supporters as well.
