Best known for founding United Farm Workers (UFW) with Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta has worked all her life advocating for social justice. She shared about her passion for equity and justice as well as her experiences as an activist in the Ignite! Social Justice keynote event hosted by the Otter Cross Cultural Center (OC3) and Otter Student Union (OSU) on March 12.

The “Exercise is Medicine On Campus” program at California State University, Â鶹´å has achieved the top gold level designation from the international health and wellness program.

Two Â鶹´å alumni, Adriana Melgoza and Patricia Cruz, have joined the Community Foundation for Monterey County. The foundation has economically supported the county for over 75 years, and in 2020, it granted a record $27 million to the community.

California State University, Â鶹´å students received over $4 million of federal emergency relief funding last Monday, March 15. Specifically, 5,433 students received between $200 and $800, totaling $3,328,400; and 313 DACA and international students received Institutional Emergency Relief aid, totaling $121,800.

“My heroine is Marie Curie,” says Aparna Sreenivasan. “I recently found out that she has the same birthday as me.”

Katherine Kantardjieff joined CSU Â鶹´å in July 2020 as provost and vice president of academic affairs. She previously served as the founding dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at California State University, San Marcos, and the chair of the Department of Chemistry at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Prior to those positions, she taught at CSU Fullerton for 20 years. She holds a doctorate degree in physical chemistry from the University of California, LA.

Â鶹´å has earned inclusion into the 2021-22 First-gen Forward cohort of higher education institutions by the Center for First-generation Student Success.

Last year, when COVID-19 began to spread across the country, eventually encroaching into Monterey County, it shut down public gatherings, including concert performances. Live music has been almost entirely absent from our cultural landscape since.
